Hey, everyone! My name is Katie and I am a first-year dance major at the University of California, Irvine. I have been highly invested in the art of dance since the age of four and, consequently, have learned countless valuable life lessons. One such lesson which I will be focusing this blog around is the importance of human interaction. A vital component of dance is the constant awareness one must have regarding the other dancers so as to avoid collisions. As a result, dance requires immense social connections and communication between performers both on and off the stage.
Therefore, as I study “Empire and its Ruins” this year through my Humanities Core class, I am excited to analyze how empire affects human interaction, particularly the empire of social media and technology in the modern world. I hope to explore how such social interactions have changed over time as technology has developed and the world of social media has become more prominent in people’s lives. Nonetheless, I do also wish to connect some blogs back to the core of my interest in human connection which stems from my background in dance. I hope you enjoy my blogs!
